Wawasan Brunei 2035
In 2004, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah,
Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam consented to the
formation of a Council for Long-Term Development Planning tasked to
shape a future vision of Brunei Darussalam and present a detailed
account of technical, financial and strategic requirements needed for it
to be realised. Consulting the public, the Council for Long-Term
Development Planning identified Brunei’s collective aspirations as to
maintain the political stability in Brunei Darussalam; to preserve
social, cultural, spiritual and historic values; to help people meet the
practical challenges of the modern world successfully and to give
families and communities confidence in the future. These recommendations
were published in 2007 embedding the vision for the future which can
fulfil the people's long-term hopes and expectations.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan
and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam consented to this long term
vision, which is known as the Wawasan Brunei 2035. This vision aspires
that by 2035, Brunei Darussalam develops into a nation which will be
widely recognised for the accomplishment of its educated and highly
skilled people measured by the highest international standards; quality
of life that is among the Top 10 nations in the world and a dynamic and
sustainable economy with income per capita within the Top 10 countries
in the world.
In 2014, His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah,
Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam highlighted the
importance of monitoring the nation's progress in achieving the Wawasan
Brunei 2035 and thus decreed for the formation of the Supreme Council
for the Wawasan known as Majlis Tertinggi Wawasan Brunei 2035. The main
role of the council is to provide intensive and systematic support
towards implementing initiatives by government agencies to realise the
outcomes of the Wawasan Brunei 2035.
His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan
and Yang Di-Pertuan Negara Brunei Darussalam also consented to the
appointment of Champions of Strategies or Peneraju Strategi for
thirteen (13) strategies under the Wawasan Brunei 2035. Strategy
champions are responsible for identifying strategies to achieve National
Outcomes in the Framework for Wawasan Brunei 2035; prepare and implement
action plans which will contribute achieve the relevant strategies and
ensure the implementation of programs and projects of high impact at the
national level. Each Champion report their progress in a timely manner
against National Key Performance Indicators to the Supreme Council.
The thirteen (13) strategies that have been identified to ensure all
aspects of development are implemented accordingly and effectively are:
(i) education, (ii) economy, (iii) security, (iv) institutional
development, (v) local business development, (vi) infrastructure
development, (vii) social security, (viii) environment, (ix) health, (x)
religion, (xi) land use, (xii) infrastructure and info-communication
technology, and (xiii) manpower planning.
