Become a member of the public library

This service is for those who are interested to register as a member of the public library at the Language & Literature Bureau. Registration is free.

As a member, you can borrow books at all branches of the Language & Literature Bureau's libraries across the four districts. You are also allowed to borrow five (5) books at a time for fourteen (14) days and three (3) days for past year exam papers.

This service is available both offline and online.

General Prerequisite / Criteria

  • Valid Brunei issued Smart Identity Card (IC) or birth certificate, where applicable.
  • A local guarantor for:
    -  children who don’t have their IC yet
    - Green/Red IC holders 

How to use the Service

   For offline procedure

  1. Go to any branch of the Language & Literature Bureau's libraries. The list of branches can be found here.
  2. Fill in the registration form available at the counter. You will need to have and provide:
    • A copy of the applicant's IC or birth certificate, where applicable. 
    • A copy of a local guarantor's IC, if applicable.
  1. The applicant will need to take a photo at the counter. A passport size photo will be rejected.
  2. Once registered, the applicant will be given a membership card.
  For online procedure

  1. Click on the "Start" button above. The service page will open in a new browser window.
  2. Fill in the online form. You will need to attach:
    • A scanned copy of the applicant's IC or birth certificate, where applicable. 
    • A scanned copy of a local guarantor's IC, if applicable. 
    • A recent passport size photo of the applicant
  1. Once successfully registered, the applicant can collect the membership card at the preferred/chosen library during registration.
