Education in Brunei is free for all Brunei citizens. Facilities are covered by the Government including tuition, textbooks, supplies, food, transportation and even accommodation for students who live miles away from their school.
There is a minimum period of 12 years in education, comprising 1 year of pre-school, 6 years of primary education and 5 years of secondary education. After that, students may enter local post-secondary and higher education institutions.
A recent introduction into the education system is
SPN 21, or Sistem Pendidikan Negara Abad Ke-21, The National Education System for the 21st Century which has been approved by the Ministry of Education. It aims to equip students with “21st Century skills” so as to meet the social and economic challenges of the 21st Century.
