Under the Business Registration Act, "business" includes every form of trade, commerce, craftmanship, calling, profession and any activity carried on for the purposes of gain but does not include any office, employment or occupation, or any of the businesses specified in the First Schedule.
To set up business in Brunei Darussalam, a company or business must first register with the Registrar of Companies and Business Names, Attorney General’s Chambers. There are three (3) types of businesses that can be registered, namely Partnership or Sole-proprietorship, Company (Private or Public Company) and Branch of Foreign Company. A foreign company cannot register a business firm unless it has registered itself under the Companies Act.
